Taking A Vacation? – How To Prepare For A Break From Blogging

I was talking to one of my YouTuber friends this weekend over a coffee and he started telling me about his watch-time fall.

He knows what the reason was.

He took a break to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s Eve with his family and this 2week-longvacation made a big gap between his YouTube watch-time and according to him, the YouTube algorithm stopped promoting his video. So, he is losing a lot of revenue due to his break.

But the problem was not “taking the break”. The problem was “not preparing for the break”.

Even though I am not familiar with the YouTube Creator platform, I know Blogging is somewhat similar.

So, here are some tips on how to prepare for a break from blogging or any other form of content creation.

Finish the work before the deadline

We, humans, have a weird sensation of doing our work at the last hour.

That’s why it’s important that you set the deadlines earlier.

If you are taking a vacation of 2 weeks from 24thDecember, set up your deadlines for the 21stof December and try to finish your content before that.

For example, if you publish four blogs each week, try to finish the vacation week’s blog during the previous 3 - 4 weeks.

So, here’s the math:

You are leaving on 24th. But just to be sure, you need to finish the content by the21st. Now, you have the first three weeks of December to finish the 8 blog posts of a 14-day vacation.

So, do 6 blogs posts each week for the first three weeks of December. This way, your vacation blogs will be ready before 21st.

Save the draft on your site

If you are using WordPress site or any other platform where you can save the draft and publish it later, take the 22nd and 23rdof December to save the content as a draft.

Once you save the drafts, you’ll be able to publish the contents from anywhere, with one single click or you can schedule the posts.

Upload the files in the cloud

If your platform doesn’t allow you to save drafts, save the necessary files on the cloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, One Drive, etc.

This way, you can access the file from anywhere around the world and publish them right on time.

Schedule the content on social media

I like to let my audience and followers know that I’ve just published a new blog on my site. I do it by sharing the links on Social Media.

But since you wouldn’t have enough time to share them on the Social Media while you are away, schedule the posts in advance.

You can schedule Twitter posts with Buffer, Hootsuite, etc. and for Facebook, you have Facebook Page managing platform. There are other free and paid tools to do the same for other social platforms.

Hire freelancers to help you

Responding to your readers’ comments is an integral part of keeping them engaged. So, if you can’t make the time for responding to the comments, hire freelancers to help you with that.

Bottom Line

These tips for preparing to take a vacation from blogging apply to every form of content creation and digital media. So,think about them when you plan for your next holiday.
