Affiliate marketing is not an illegitimate industry. It is as legit as a flower shop or a bakery.
However, that doesn’t mean people don’t try to mix illegitimacy to this thriving industry. They do and time and again they were successful in doing so.
Many affiliate marketers trap themselves in these illegitimate or scam affiliation and lose their revenue from other genuine affiliate programs. To ensure this doesn’t happen to you, here are the 3 major affiliate marketing scams that you should look out for in 2019 and 2020.
1. “Get Rich Overnight” offers
Do you know anyone who got rich overnight in a legitimate way?
- No.
Exactly. There is no “getting rich overnight”. Things don’t just happen so easily.
I know that there is a group of people who try to convince you that there is a secret way to bypass the delay and get rich overnight – they are nothing but scammers.
I even saw an ad where they claimed people who joined their affiliate program, have earned more than 1000 Dollars in days, which is absurd. Not even Amazon affiliation can bring you so much money in a day or two unless you have an age-old website and a very trusting customer base.
So, whenever you see offers like this, be sure to grab your stuff and run the opposite direction. Remember, fortune doesn’t come so easy. You need to use all your resources, put your effort and most importantly, give your time to be on the affiliation throne.
2. Fake Affiliate Marketing offers and courses
This is self-explanatory.
Every newbie in affiliate marketing has faced this situation at least once in his lifetime. I was no exception.
When I got involved in affiliate marketing, I asked myself, am I prepared. The answer was no because I knew my boundaries. That’s why I decided to take on a course to help me become a better affiliate marketer. Halfway through I realized this course is nothing but a simple WikiHow guide with fillers. My money was wasted and so was my time.
Another foolish mistake I made was choosing the wrong affiliation program. Since I was new, I grabbed any offer, deal and program that I could get my hand on. As you would expect, it was all a waste of time. I ended up with a fake affiliation program and that’s not even the worst part. The worst part is when I searched about that company, the very first result that came was titled – “Another fraud to look out”.
If only I had done my research beforehand!
So, don’t make the same mistakes I did. Whether it is an affiliation program you come across or an online course you heard about, always make sure you do the digging.
3. “Pay to Enroll” programs
Most of the legit affiliate programs are free of cost and risks. They offer the best possible environment for the marketers and offer all the help they need for free. But, if you come across a program where they charge you for joining or charge you for helping you with the setup process, be sure that it is most probably a planned scam.
