5 Steps to Become a Real Estate Agent in Florida
1. Taker prelicensing course
The first step into getting a license is a 63-hour prelicensing course.
There are many institutions in Florida that offer prelicensing courses both in-person and online. This course will cover the financial and legal aspects of real estate buying and selling.
But if you have a 4-year degree in any fields related to real estate, you don’t need to complete this prelicensing class. You can also skip the courses if you are a member of the Florida Bar Association.
2. Submit your biometrics to a Livescan service provider
Before you submit your application, you must submit your biometric, specifically your fingerprints, to a Livescan service provider with the correct code – Real Estate Sales and Brokers—FL920010Z. If you don’t submit your fingerprints; the process will be delayed.
Also, make sure to bring two valid forms of ID when you are going to give your prints.
3. Work on your Florida license application
The next step is to fill out a license application. To do so, register an account online with the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Alternatively, you can print a form and fill it out. In this application, you’ll have to answer a series of questions regarding your personal and professional career, along with formal documents and identification.
It usually costs $83.75 (2021), but if you are military personnel or married to one, you are eligible for a waiver.
4. Pass the Florida Real Estate Exam
After you have applied and your application is approved by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, expect an official letter of authorization from Pearson VUE. Once these are taken care of, you need to prepare, take and pass the Real Estate exam. The letter you receive will include all the details about scheduling the exam, which is overseen by Pearson.
Scheduling is available both online or by phone.
Once the exam is scheduled, you need to prepare for the exam. The test can be taken online from the comfort of your home.
The exam will have 100 questions for which you’ll be given three and a half hours. You need to score at least 75 to pass the test. In case you fail the exam, you have three weeks to manage a review with Pearson.
5. Get a principal broker to hire you
The last thing you need to do is get hired by a real estate brokerage. You might need to visit a few to get hired, but it is doable. Since everyone else did, there’s no reason to think you wouldn’t. Once hired, you’ll have to work under a real estate broker and assist clients in buying and selling a properties.
